"What am I doing in New York City?", the youngest and most promising songwriter of New York asks, recorder and notebook always ready at hand. Whatever occurs to him lands either in the recorder as a song which is later burned to a CD, or in the small book and becomes a pulsating text: For a while, Adam Green collected the texts he wrote beside his lyrics in fanzines - the so-called magazines. Together with the long poem "The Flowers of Capitalism" and other texts from between 2001 and 2004, these texts are now for the first time available in book form. Allen Ginsberg and Bob Dylan linger in these texts, Guillaume Apollinaire and Rolf Dieter Brinkmann echo on in them, and maybe even Green's great-grandmother Felice Bauer whispers through his verses. The news on MTV come thick and fast, puberty continues, wars are led, the absurd lies on the street, and sometimes it helps to simply number ideas from beginning to end. The edition is bilingual; the translation was made by the author and musician Thomas Meinecke.

Adam Green does not only write song lyrics. On January 21th, 2005, "magazine" will be published, his very first book for the international book market. It contains a collage of texts which present Adam Green beyond his songwriting as a brilliant, daring, and shrewd artist of language

In Lachs "Open Mic Sessions", die auch Amateuren zugängliche waren, machten Musiker wie Beck und Michelle Shocked ihre ersten musikalischen Gehversuche.

Erst 2001 erlangte Antifolk auch in Deutschland durch die Moldy Peaches und den enormen Erfolg von Adam Green Aufmerksamkeit. In kürzester Zeit brach eine Welle der Begeisterung los - die "Zeit" widmete Antifolk einen Aufmacher im Feuilleton, der Suhrkamp Verlag veröffentlichte ein Buch mit Gedichten und Prosa von Adam Green.

Doch wie ist die Szene entstanden? Wer sind ihre Protagonisten? Martin Büsser liefert das weltweit erste Antifolk-Kompendium, entstanden in Zusammenarbeit mit zahlreichen Musikern aus der Szene. Es gibt einen Abriss über die Folk-Entwicklung von Bob Dylan bis heute, beleuchtet den Do-it-yourself-Gedanken des Antifolk und liefert zudem ein Who’s who der Szene.
Der erste Teil spürt Vorläufern des "schrägen" Folk und einer spezifisch US-amerikanischen "Outsider Music" nach. Er enthält unter anderem Porträts von den Fugs, Godz, Jonathan Richman, Beat Happening und Daniel Johnston. Im Hauptteil werden die jüngeren Protagonisten des Antifolk ausführlich gewürdigt, darunter Jeffrey Lewis, Herman Düne, Kimya Dawson, Dufus und Adam Green. Abgerundet wird das Buch durch eine Auswahl-Diskographie der wichtigsten Antifolk-Künstler.
